Criteria for each Award

The Spire FM Retailer of the Year Award

This award will be made to a retailer delivering its business plan objectives and demonstrating improved business performance as a result.

The judges will be looking for:

  • A retailer who has a firm understanding of how to maximize all retail opportunities
  • A retailer who can demonstrate success in achieving excellence through the delivery of top line customer service.
  • A retailer that is actively improving customer service orientation of staff through training and development
  • The quality of the shop front design and window display.
  • The overall quality of the internal shop fit.

Entry to this category is open to all retailers with a shop front and an operating address in South Wiltshire.

The Moore Stephens Business of the Year Award (over 500k turnover)

This Award will recognise the best of South Wiltshire’s companies with over £500,000 turnover. The winner of this category will be clearly demonstrating the use of good ideas, careful planning and a determination to succeed to produce a thriving business.

The judges will be looking for:

  • A company which has achieved success
  • Demonstration of success in overcoming challenges to develop the business
  • A company which can demonstrate a clear relationship between its marketing strategy and the development of the business
  • A clear strategy for future expansion of the business

Wessex Drainage New Business Award

This award is open to any business that commenced trading on or after 1st April 2010.

The award will be presented to a dynamic company that can demonstrate excellence in developing what they offer.

The judges will be looking for:

  • A company which can demonstrate success in driving forward its business plan
  • A company that invests in its workforce
  • A company which can demonstrate a clear relationship between its marketing strategy and the development of the business
  • How the business contributes to the local community
  • A clear plan for future growth

Entry to this category is open to all companies operating in South Wiltshire.

The FSB Small Business Award

This Award will recognise the best of South Wiltshire’s small companies with under £500,000 turnover. The winner of this category will be clearly demonstrating the use of good ideas, careful planning and a determination to succeed to produce a thriving business.

The judges will be looking for:

  • A company which has achieved success
  • Demonstration of success in overcoming challenges to develop the business
  • A company which can demonstrate a clear relationship between its marketing strategy and the development of the business
  • A clear strategy for future expansion of the business

The TABS Excellence in Training Award

This award recognises the importance that businesses are placing on the personal development of staff at all levels. In line with government policy the successful company will demonstrate the benefits of starting with the basics when planning the training and development of their workforce.

The judges will be looking for:

  • Companies who have worked to address the Numeracy and Literacy deficit which exists within the UK work force, in addition to vocational skills.
  • A clear indication of the methods used to assess the training and development needs of the workforce
  • A company which has a clear strategy on supporting and motivating employees to undertake training and development

The Emery Little Environmental Award

Businesses of all types have a crucial role to play in developing innovative environmental practices that help conserve natural resources and reduce its impact on the environment.

The winner of the environmental award will be able to demonstrate that they are environmentally responsible business.

The judges will be looking for evidence of:-

  • A strong commitment to putting environmental issues at the centre of the business agenda.
  • A strong environmental ethos within the organisation.
  • Evidence that strategies are in place and being acted upon to reduce waste.
  • The encouragement of staff to consider environmental issues in their day to day activities.
  • A sustainable long term business model which gives due regard to the physical environment as well as the financial.

The Design Types E-Commerce Award

This Award will recognise the best of South Wiltshire’s businesses. The winner of this category will be clearly demonstrating the use of good e-commerce creativity, careful planning and a determination to succeed to produce a thriving business.

The judges will be looking for:

  • A company that has developed new ideas to improve their performance by way of information technology
  • A company that is able to demonstrate clear benefits from computer technology and using these to further increase their everyday business
  • A clear strategy for future expansion of the business

The Trethowans Business Personality Award

This Award will be presented to the business person who in the judge’s opinion has made a significant difference to the community of South Wiltshire.

The judges will be looking for:

A person who provides a significant level of help and support to a group or organisation based in Salisbury District

The Salisbury Journal Marketing Excellence Award

These Awards will be presented to dynamic companies who can demonstrate excellence in marketing their business.

The judges will be looking for:

  • A company which can demonstrate success in driving forward its business plan
  • A company that invests in its workforce
  • A company which can demonstrate a clear relationship between its marketing strategy and the development of the business
  • How the business contributes to the local community
  • A clear plan for future growth

The PearTree Apartments Hospitality and Tourism Award

These 2 awards will be judged as follows:

The Hospitality award – is aimed at restaurants and pubs that go that extra mile
The Tourism award – is aimed at those (attraction/hotel or B&B) that provide a quality reception to their visitors

Overall the judges will be looking for:

  • A Business that can demonstrate success in driving forward its business plan
  • A Business that invests time in its workforce
  • A Clear relationship between its marketing and business development
  • Working towards Green accreditation (GTBS)
  • DDA – Access all (Disability awareness)
  • Relationship Building – Working with other businesses in the community

Entry to this category is open to all tourism related businesses with an operating address in the South Wiltshire area - any entrant who is an accommodation provider will need to have either a Visit Britain or AA star rating.
